Thankfully there were no immediate reports of injuries. In Kenai, authorities decided to evacuate more than a dozen of homes as they feared possible gas leaks. According to Police Chief Gus Sandahl, early Sunday morning the fire department and gas company began investigating, as there was the fear that gas lines might be broken over significant damage.
Residents of Anchorage also felt the powerful quake, but according to their police departments there were no reports of great damage or injuries. Well over 4800 residents and their families remained without power as scattered power outages hit Anchorage. Other effects of the quake included road damage in the Kenai Peninsula, cracks in different houses, and a lot of broken dishes and objects that fell as the quake started to shake houses violently.
