Mother scammed people telling her seven-year-old daughter has cancer

After Child Protective Services informed police of their suspicions about her fundraising activities, they investigated and discovered that the girl was, in fact, healthy. Thursday, the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office in southern Texas announced on Facebook that they had arrested the 46-year-old mother on third-degree felony charges for the exploitation of a child. Her bond was set at $10,000. After discovering the fraud, police commented: “In many cases, asking questions and utilizing good common sense approaches can prevent someone from being the target of a fraudulent scheme,” the police warned because similar cases was discovered in the last years.
