Police said all of the victims were stable. Several hundred people who were gathered in the park at the time at the Bunny Friend playground, including kids and teens, were devasted. Witnesses described the principal attacker as a man with a silver-colored machine gun. Circumstances surrounding the shooting in the city’s Upper Ninth Ward were not immediately clear. Both groups involved in the gun battle fled the park on foot immediately after the shooting. No arrests were immediately made. Fifth District Detectives are in charge of the on-going investigation. Mayor Mitch Landrieu and police chief were on the scene with dozens of NOPD officers.
