Several hundred students and teachers and scientists attended the event. One of the teen guests was Ahmed Mohamed, the 14-year-old Texan who was suspended from school for bringing a clock which was supposed to be a bomb. U.S. President Barack Obama peers through a telescope set up on the South Lawn of the White House. Some interesting news were announced: NASA will work with students and citizen scientists to scout targets for the James Webb Space Telescope, which will launch in 2018; more than 350 organizations and funders are announcing a goal to create 100 city and regional “STEM ecosystems” over the next five years; not at last, Bayer and National PTA are launching a national effort to engage parents in 100,000 STEM experiences.
