Powerful storm in Southern California blocked Interstate 5 Freeway and other roads

“I’ve never seen it rain that hard in such a short period of time; the hail and wind, it was coming down hard. … The debris was just intense: chunks of wood and rock flowing everywhere,” said one driver to the media. Multiple cars were trapped in life threatening flooding and mudslides. Rescue crews were working to find drivers that are potentially stranded. They were taken to safety via a helicopter. Rescue teams were also called in to rescue two parents and an infant who were stuck on a house roof in Lake Hughes. The Los Angeles County Fire Department was responding to reports that employees were trapped inside a school district building in the area. The CHP reported that the 5 Freeway would remain closed for at least 24 hours at Parker Road for those traveling northbound and at Grapevine Road on the southbound side.
