Hood was declared an American hero by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel in a statement. After the collision Hood crashed onto a sidewalk after he reportedly hit the top of a building in an uncontrolled offsite landing. He suffered a head injury.The other parachutist suffered a broken leg. Hood and the Leap Frogs member collided when they broke apart in different directions after forming a circle in the air with the team in what is called a “bomb burst.” Sgt. Hood was a married man but has no kids. He joined the Army more than 10 years ago. The accident is under investigation, by the Army. “Our focus right now is on supporting Corey’s family and grieving for our teammate,” Lt. Col. Matthew Weinrich, commander, U.S. Army Parachute Team, said.
