Bundy already discussed the idea of possible getting married with his 19-year-old girlfriend Elizabeth (Hannah) Jaynes. But the two didn’t get to plan for it. Facing this situation Josten Bundy decided that marrying Elizabeth within a 30-day-notice was the best option. Needless to say that because the wedding was in such a short notice only few family members got to see them getting married. As part of the same sentence Bundy was also required to write out a Bible verse 25 times a day (“If a man digs a pit, he will fall into it.” — Proverbs 26:27).
The father of the bride was outraged by this decision and wanted to seek legal help. Kenneth Jaynes explained: “I was really upset. Judge Rogers stepped into my family and tried to tell them what to do without any regard for me or anything. This isn’t his decision.. I contacted a couple of lawyers but they told me someone was trying to pull my leg…that judges don’t court order somebody to get married..”
