He appreciated the actual legislation as “outdated”. In addition to establishing the working group, Carter also made it more difficult to dismiss transgender persons currently serving in uniform. Referring to the last 14 years of the American military, Carter said also: “Throughout this time, transgender men and women in uniform have been there with us, even as they often had to serve in silence alongside their fellow comrades in arms.” Taking the problem even more seriously, U.S. Defense Secretary considered that “our military’s future strength depends on it.” What is expected from a future decision is to provide everyone who’s able and willing to serve [in the army] the full and equal opportunity to do so with right to benefit of dignity and respect.
