In the Clinton Correctional Facility, in Dannemora, about 40 miles (65 km) south of the Canadian province of Quebec, the alarm was given Saturday morning at 5:30AM when Richard Matt and David Sweat were discovered to be missing and their beds were filled with clothes to appear as though they were sleeping. The FBI and the U.S. Marshals Service joined their forces and went to help with the hunt for the two escaped convicts. According to prison officials after the escaped murderers got out through the hole cut out of the back of the cell they went onto a catwalk which is about six stories high. From there the two most likely climbed down and had power tools and were able to get out to this facility through tunnels, cutting away at several spots. While authorities are on the lookout for the two a separate investigation is also ongoing to determine how did two inmates got their hands on power-tools.

Gov. explained: “It’s very important that we locate these individuals.. They are dangerous, and we want to make sure they don’t inflict any more pain and any more harm on New Yorkers”. Officials are concerned the men may attempt to enter Canada through Ontario or Quebec. As a result safety alerts have been broadcast to police officers in the Greater Toronto Area.
