The recall is a voluntary action as a precautionary measure, being conducted with the knowledge of the Food and Drug Administration. Listeriosis, the illness generated by the bacteria, can produce short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea for healthy individuals but can cause ‘serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems’, as the firm explained itself. Among the items said to have been affected are the Vegetable Lasagna, the Spinach Pizza, the Enchilada Verde Whole Meal and the Tofu Scramble. The complete list with 18 products categories distributed in USA and Canada was publicly released.
