Both were taken to local Barnes hospital. Their injuries are very serious but not life-threatening. The two police officers were standing next to each other in front of the Ferguson police department. No suspect for the attack has been yet identified. This happened during a relatively peaceful protest which is ongoing in the area after a  Justice Department report found racial bias in the city police department. This is already the town’s embattled police chief resigned. He was widely criticized for an aggressive police response to protesters and for his agency’s erratic and infrequent releases of key information. Ferguson’s court clerk was fired last week and two police officers resigned. The Ferguson Police Department has been the focus of protests since one of its officers, Darren Wilson, fatally shot Brown on August 9.
