The tree was grown by Chris Botek on Crystal Spring Tree Farm in Lehighton, Pennsylvania. Botek won the National Christmas Tree contest sponsored by the National Christmas Tree Association. His farm previously provided the official White House tree in 2010 and 2006. The annual Christmas tree arrived at the White House pulled by two horses in a horse-drawn wagon. ” We’re taking the tree” said, as per tradition, Michelle Obama. To perfectly stand in the Blue Room, the three was already carefully chosen weeks in advance with participation of White House staffers including the chief usher, groundskeeper and chief horticulturist which traveled to the Crystal Spring Tree Farm. With the arrival of the tree at the White House, this is the start of the holiday season. Now, an army of volunteers will help turn the White House into a winter wonderland.
