Reform to limit NSA powers was stopped by Republican’s vote


The vote was 58 to 42 . Two votes missed of the required 60 to pass the USA Freedom Act sponsored by Sen. Patrick Leahy and Republican Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner. NSA is storing billions of telephone “metadata”, including almost all telephone connections of Americans. This was revealed by the former analyst for the NSA Edward Snowden, who leaked details of the massive accumulation of telephone connections and on the internet. The new Congress will have to take decision in the future. The proposed legislation would been required to use a new kind of court order to swiftly obtain the records. The existence of the Islamic state ISIS as a threat and the combat against terrorism were invoked to limit now the expected reform.
