Very intense storm and snow record in 24 hours in Buffalo area


Dave Zaff of the National Weather Service in Buffalo said there’s no meteorological term for the phenomenon that created that strikingly pronounced wall of clouds and amount of snow. He considered this as an „historic event.“ That’s the record for snowfall over a 24-hour period anywhere in the U.S. ever. NY Governor declared  state of emergency. The National Guard was activated around Buffalo. Schools closed on Tuesday and will remain closed in the hard-hit areas and Buffalo. Half the flights in and out of Buffalo’s airport were canceled. Four deaths are considered weather-related. At least seven people may have lost a finger clearing out snowblowers, according news. Numerous cars were abandoned. At least 19 deaths in traffic accidents were recorded on icy roads since Saturday. More than 100 cities break records Tuesday night and Wednesday for the lowest daily high or low temperature for this time of year. A second similar phenomenon is expected to occur again.
