All references to religious holidays on school calendars removed in Maryland


That means that Christmas and Easter, as well as Jewish holidays like Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah will no longer be mentioned as motivation for scholar vacancies. However, schools will still be closed on Christian and Jewish holidays but future school calendars will now list the students’ Christmas vacation as “winter break” or the Easter vacation as “spring break” or even simply “no school for students and teachers.” “Because our children matter too,” said representatives of Muslim families. “By stripping the names Christmas, Easter, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, they have alienated other communities now, and we are no closer to equality,”  Saqib Ali, a former Maryland state delegate and co-chair of the Equality for Eid Coalition, told to the media.
