Hayes lived in Santa Cruz and worked in the company’s Google X division involved in projects such as Google Glass and driverless cars. Tichelman was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder, destruction of evidence , transporting and providing narcotics, police said. The police worked hard to identify Tichelman as the author of the murder . It took months before Santa Cruz police obtained a judge’s order to get the video surveillance recordings from the boat, initially set to privacy due to their sex related content. It was discovered that after injection Hayes was “suffering medical complications” and lost consciousness. But the girl made no effort to help him. „She was just trying to cover her tracks. (…) She did some cleaning. She took some evidence from the scene,” said Santa Cruz Deputy Police Chief Steve Clark.
