the first LAPD officer was hit by a dump truck while the other was killed after a driver under the influence of cocaine hit his motorcycle.
Mayor Eric Garcetti had the following to say after ordering city flags to be lowered for a moment of silence and grief: “This third loss of an officer in the line of duty in just two months is a stark and tragic reminder of the dangers our first responders face every day,”
Roberto Sanchez, the third LAPD officer to die on the job recently, was a six-year veteran who happened to be in his patrol car when he got hit. An SUV crashed in the squad car and the damage was so great as Sanchez’s partner was forced to use his personal cell to call the Police as the police radio was no longer working. Both Sanchez and his partner, whose name was not released, were transported to a nearby hospital. Roberto Sanchez died at the hospital and his partner was hospitalized because of various injuries including a broken jaw.
LAPD did not release more information about the incident. The SUV driver fled the scene but police reportedly detained a person of interest.
