The nominated incident determined An investigation of the Justice Department and as a consequence some CIA officers could face criminal prosecution.
On the Senate floor, Feinstein expressed clearly her opinion saying: “I have grave concerns that the CIA search may well have violated the separation of powers principles”
The CIA has a different opinion arguing that the investigation was conducted to determine if Senate staffers gained access to documents they were not supposed to have. In fact, Senate staff members gained access to the draft of an internal review of CIA regarding interrogation practices of the agency.
A dispute between the Senate and CIA is ongoing and one of the accusations is relates to the possible violation of the Constitution by the agency. The California Democrat Sen. Dianne Feinstein demanded an apology addressed to the Senate from the part of the CIA. She even sent a letter to the director of the CIA. Feinstein’s colleagues in Senate appreciated her attitude as “courage and conviction”.
