“We were all jumping, having fun, we’ve done it five times before and then all the sudden the girls in front of me just disappeared” said a witness student to the media. More than 600 students, parents, faculty and alumni were in the auditorium. The cause of the accident it’s supposed to be the fact that too many people were on the platform, meaning it was too much weight. Orange County fire inspectors performed an  investigation on the scene during Sunday night.
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange said it was “an unfortunate accident”. What is known at this time is the fact that the collapsed stage was extended in the 1980’s. It’s not very clear if its usage permit included a weight restriction or a limit on the number of people permitted to be on stage.
