The savior was named by the Navy a “Good Samaritan”. A Navy Hawk helicopter recovered later the pilot and he was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Even though not too much information was offered, it is known that he is in critical condition. The aircraft which crashed, an F/A-18-E , is the property of Fighter Squadron 143 and was produced by Boeing company. It was used since the early 80s. The jet was based at the Navi Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach.
A full investigation is underway by authorities. There are discussions about the probability to have two Navy crashes in the space of the one week because just a week ago a Navy Sea Dragon helicopter plunged into the sea in the region killing three of the crew members on board.
