Executive director Ben Carter stepped to defend the auction explaining that the animal which will be hunt and killed is an old black rhino that was becoming aggressive and threatened other wildlife.
Critics, animal and wildlife rights groups have all attacked the sale. There are less than 5000 black rhinos left on the whole planet from which 4000 remain in the wild. The holder of the permit is allowed to kill a rare specimen in Namibia. No details about the winning bidder who paid $350000 for the permit were made public. FBI also came to the auction which took place in Dallas under tight security. The Federal Bureau was investigating the death threats some of the members of the club received.
