Hundreds of flights were cancelled in and out of Chicago’s O’Hara International Airport. A lot of car accidents were reported in Ohio and Missouri.
Some schools in New England and New York closed pre-emptively.
Due to the cold weather, the ski area on the Smiling Hill Farm closed temporarily. The weather service issued a winter storm warning for New York and his northern suburbs.
The winter storm Hercules is expected to dump up to 14 inches of snow in Boston and 10 inches on New York. Travel problems were predicted. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo suggested people take public transport as a safety precaution. As a result of the blowing snow and very low temperatures, road-cleaning efforts will be very difficult. On the east coast of New England beach erosion and flooding of coastal roads are expected.
The winter storm is expected to exit the East Coast by Friday.
