Severe weather events in the U.S. and Canada: seven people died during the last weekend

What came as a surprise even for meteorologists was the warm air. Philadelphia and New York City registered record high temperatures during the last weekend. It was 65 degrees in Central Park on Saturday. At the same time, in Washington DC the temperature was about 40 degrees warmer than normal.
New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine were confronted with an ice storm. The New York Governor declared a winter ice storm emergency in four counties. A tornado touched the city of Redfield, Arkansas. Many homes were damaged and power lines were destroyed in several areas of the country.
Similar situations were reported in Canada. Toronto Hydro communicated that 250,000 people were left without power and it's possible not to have the power back in time for Christmas.
