The cybercriminals accessed customer names, the number of the card, the expiration dates and even the three digit security codes for 40 million people who had shopped in Target stores. Target has now almost 1,800 stores in the US and 124 in Canada. The company alerted the federal authorities and the Secret Service and asked for help in the ongoing investigation.
Mike Donovan, Global Forces Group leader, expert in cyber attacks said about this situation:
“We see breaches across all sizes of companies. It happens all the time. every day, .with retailers, health care organizations, schools and other operations.” According to experts, because the stolen data were not used in actual purchases, they are probably stored to create counterfeit credit cards and to withdraw money from the ATM cash machines.
