A giant stingray was captured in the last weekend in Miami Beach area

In fact. Mark was thinking he captured a big shark but in reality it was a roughtail stingray with the scientific name, Dasyatis centroura, identified by George H. Burgess of the Florida Museum of Natural History. “It looked really odd…like some kind of dinosaur” was Mark’s first impression. The monster captured in the area of Miami Beach had about 800 pounds weight. It was filmed and the footage will be released later this year or early in the next year.
“Most anglers don’t bottom-fish in these deeper waters so they aren’t routinely seen by that user group, but commercial  fishers and research biologists see the critter fairly commonly,” Burgess said.
The specialists are happy to study a big one.
