A flight instructor and a Navy flight student were injured and were transported to a nearby hospital. “Both are stable”, said the Navy spokeswoman Lt. Lauryn Dempsey.
The cause of the crash is not known and it currently is under investigation.
The T-45 Goshawk, used by the United States Navy as an aircraft carrier-capable trainer was designed in the mid 1970s when the US Navy looked for replacement for T-2 and TA-4 trainers. The jet first flew in 1988 and became operational in 1991. The requirement of the Navy was for 223 units, delivered beginning 2007. This jet is usually not armed but can carry up to 12 Mk-76 practice bombs.
