The American head of the Senate Intelligence Committee Senator Dianne Feinstein, explained this position arguing that Snowden could have reported to the Committee privately. The Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Mike Rogers, complained that by his action Snowden produced “an enormous disservice” to the US and actually puts soldiers lives at risk in places like Afghanistan.” Concretely, he revealed that three terrorist organizations changed the way they communicate as a consequence of Snowden’s declarations.
At the same time, American officials suggested that President Obama was not informed about the fact that Merkel’s personal phone was being tapped.
However, as a positive consequence of Snowden’s disclosures, last week a bill was produced to increase congressional oversight and to limit NSA’s powers.
