According to the rules of Indiana, the unclaimed money will be returned to the state and will be shared among firefighter pension funds, teacher retirement fund and to reduce the excise tax on Hoosier vehicle owners. A cut of the action, about $10,000 value, will be paid to the Circle K that sold the ticket.
Such stories have a history: the biggest unclaimed winning ticket in the Indiana was for $50 million in 2012. Similar situations were related all around the US country, including New York. Leaving millions on the table seems to be a common attitude for many lucky American people during the past years and probably in the years to come.
