In the announcement, the producer has a strong warning:
”Consumers with recalled dehumidifier units must immediately stop using these units and disconnect them by unplugging them. Every potential user of the unit should be informed of the risk of fire and told not to use the dehumidifier.”
The dehumidifiers have been linked to 46 fires and $2.15 million in property damage. No injuries have been reported. The recalled units were manufactured between 2003 and 2005. They were sold nationwide at major retailers including Home Depot, Kmart and Lowe's between January 2005 and August of this year.To receive a refund, consumers must call Gree Electric Appliances at 866-853-2802. Sears Kenmore has set up a webpage where consumers can check if their dehumidifier is being recalled, at http://www.kenmoredehumidifierrecall.com/check.php. The model number can be found on the right side of the interior of the unit once the bucket has been removed.
