The reputation of the agency has been under scrutiny after an embarrassing prostitution scandal.
Julia Pierson aged 53 started her career as an agent in Miami around 3 decades back. For the past 5 years, she served as the chief of staff to the departing director, Mark Sullivan. She has been described by her peers as a dedicated and well-skilled managed who has aided oversee a project worth $250 million that’s aimed at modernizing the data management network and communication of the agency.
In a statement President Obama confirmed the qualifications of Julia and termed her as one of the most eligible candidates for the job. Confirmation from the Senate is not required for the appointment.
Selection of Pierson as the new Secret Service director comes after a critical year at the office. The secret service was under extreme criticism due a prostitution scandal revealing the domination of the male in the service.
Pierson is now going to lead an agency that has an employee base of 3,500 and 1,400 uninformed employees. She will also have a budget of $1.5 billion to work with.
