After the girl statement the five-time state representative Ernest Hewett had to say the following to the little girl: “If you’re bashful I got a snake sitting under my desk here”.
His remark generated outrage among his colleagues and people from all around U.S. The state representative was taken down from his leadership post as deputy speaker but some Republicans call for an even harsher punishment.
Hewett later issued an apology for his remark and declared to the press that he did not mean to make any sexual reference by his remark which only sounded that way because it was taken out of context. The CEO and president of the Connecticut Science Center accepted his apology and passed it on to the girl.
