A massive ﬁre in a residential skyscraper, the 48-storey apartment building Abbco Tower was reported in Sharjah, UAE, on Tuesday night, a little bit after 9 pm.
Residents were evacuated and no casualties have been reported but police are now using a drone to check for residents possibly trapped inside the building. Seven people were injured in the incident and have been hospitalised. Cars were damaged by the falling debris from the burning building. At least a dozen ﬁre trucks and scores of ﬁreﬁghters were rushed to the spot. The Sharjah Civil Defence teams are at the site to control the ﬁre. Civil Defence teams are securing the area to stop the ﬁre from spreading to other building. The affected residential building is near the Taj Bangalore Restaurant in Al Nahda, Sharjah.
Neighboring residents in at least ﬁve buildings nearby were quickly moved to safety. Ofﬁcials have yet to conﬁrm the cause of the ﬁre. Authorities said that the quick response by Sharjah Civil Defence teams averted a major disaster. Fireﬁghters brought the ﬂames under control, according to a statement from the media bureau.
