Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife are self isolating

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is self-isolating over coronavirus fears. This occurred after his wife, Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau, 44, began to show mild symptoms of illness including a low fever late on Wednesday following a trip in London.

Mrs Trudeau was in the United Kingdom to attend the WE Day UK Charity event and concert, which was held in London last Tuesday, March 3. The couple are staying home until the tests results are returned. The Canadian Prime Minister is working from home. Mr Trudeau is spending the day in briefings, phone calls and virtual meetings from home. He is among the first world leaders to take the precautionary step. He was scheduled to hold meetings over the next two days in Ottawa with provincial premiers and First Nations leaders but such activities were postponed.

There are currently approximately 103 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Canada, in the provinces of British Columbia, Ontario, Alberta, Quebec, and Manitoba. The country announced on Wednesday a C$1bn ($728m; £562m) coronavirus response fund to deal with the pandemic. Two members of Trudeau’s cabinet have also chosen to self-isolate in recent days.
