Besides an eruption on the month of November last year its previous eruption happened almost 40 years ago and it was nothing like this one. According to volcano expert Gennady Karpov from Russia’s Academy of Sciences the Kamchatka volcanoes never created lava lakes up until now.
The Plosky Tolbachik volcano regularly emits jets of hot lava up to a few hundred meters and has even emitted jets of burning hot lava up to 200 meters high. According to Russian officials the violent eruptions will not end anytime soon. On the other side there is some good news too. According to the European air traffic agency and to Karpov the current flight patterns of airlines that pass over the Kamchatka peninsula won’t be changed as the situation is under control.
