An attack on the Bar Caballo Blanco nightclub table dancing, which is located in a storefront on a busy commercial street in the Mexican city of Coatzacoalcos has left 23 people dead and 13 injured, Tuesday night.
The fire killed eight women and 15 men. There was no immediate information on the condition of the injured.The state governor, Cuitláhuac García, suggested a gang dispute was involved. The fire may have been started with gasoline bombs- Molotov cocktails. The interior of the bar was wrecked and charred, with chairs overturned and debris littering the floor. An investigation is underway. The state attorney general’s office condemned "what may constitute a malicious attack." "In Veracruz, criminal gangs are no longer tolerated," Garcia wrote of the attack, adding police, the armed forces and newly formed National Guard are searching for the attackers.
Veracruz’s Ministry of Public Security said it “condemns the events that took place.” Coatzacoalcos is a port city on the Gulf of Mexico coast. Veracruz is one of the most violent regions in the country, popular route for drug cartels and for human traffickers. Battles between cartels and gangs frequently erupt in the state with deadly confrontations.
