Warren Appleby, a well-known special effects coordinator in Toronto, from DC Universe, was killed Thursday afternoon when a piece of equipment burst at a special effects facility in Etobicoke, as he was preparing and testing effects for an upcoming shoot for the television show "Titans."
He was hit in the head by a piece of metal from a car during a stunt rehearsal at the facility. Warren was a 25-year veteran in television and motion pictures. "The executive producers, along with everyone in the TITANS family, Warner Bros. Television Group and DC UNIVERSE, wish to express our deepest condolences, and heartfelt love and support, to Warren’s family and friends at this most difficult time,” a statement said. Warren was also special effects coordinator on the films "It" and "The Shape of Water," as well as the television show "The Strain." He was considered „a vital member of the Toronto film industry.”
Warren is beloved by all who worked with him during an impressive 25-year career in television and motion pictures," the statement also said. Production has been shut down for two days. The Ministry of Labor is now investigating the accident. Titans is an original live-action show produced for Warner Bros.’ DC streaming service, DC Universe. "Titans" premiered in 2018 having stars Brenton Thwaites as Dick Grayson and Anna Diop as Starfire.
