An horrible accident occurred Thursday in Dubai at 6pm local time: an airport bus crash has killed 17 people of different nationalities.
The bus was full of holidaymakers returning from Oman after the Eid holidays. Another three people were severely injured. Officers said the bus, driving a route between Muscat, in Oman, and Dubai, drove straight into a low-clearance sign in Dubai’s Rashidiya neighbourhood, smashing through the driver’s side of the bus. The driver of the bus, believed to be in his 50s, survived the crash but was injured.
A dramatic image showed the bus with severely damaged frontage as emergency services surrounded the scene. Dubai Police Chief Maj Gen Abdullah Al Marri described the crash as a ‘tragic incident’. He said 31 people were on board the tourist bus. He added: "Sometimes a simple error or negligence during driving leads to serious consequences, as happened this evening, and resulted in the deaths of 17 people of different nationalities." The Oman government-owned bus company said: "Mwasalat family expresses its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured."
