In his speech, Vladimir Putin showed his anger over the lately issued Magnitsky Act released by the U.S. Congress. The legislation needs Washington to freeze all assets of those who were allegedly involved in death of Russian anti-corruption lawyer Sergei Magnitsky.
The law also bars entry of those involved in the murder. Sergei Magnitsky was working for the biggest Western investment fund of Russia. He claimed to have exposed a scheme that was used by the Russian officials to misuse in excess of $230 million in taxes that was to be paid by that firm. The lawyer was later arrested by the same officials on whom he made the accusations. He died in the prison waiting for the trial on corruption charges.
The ban has been backed by the Russian President Vladimir Putin.
