Meteorologists are forecasting storms and gales, with temperatures expected to dip as low as -2C. Warnings about extreme weather were issued for the next days. Snowfalls occurred and more are expected. The coastal regions are also expected to be lashed by torrential rains. Sydney has experienced significant travel disruptions due to the wind and rain, with trains, ferries and planes all facing delays or cancellations. Some flights have been cancelled at Sydney Airport because of strong winds. Three yachts have become beached at Callala Bay near Jervis Bay due to heavy swells. A search is ongoing for a surfer believed missing off Barrack Point near Wollongong.
The wet weather is causing delays across the Sydney train network this morning, with the T1, T2 and T9 lines all affected. There are reports that around 5 mm of snow fell in the region, west of Sydney, overnight. A severe weather warning is in place for those in the Mid-North Coast, Hunter, Metropolitan area, the Illawarra and South Coast. The strong winds have also caused chaos on the Sydney roads and for ferry services.
