The name Pontifex translates to “pope” or to “bridge builder”. Vatican officials considered several names before choosing the handle “Pontifex”. “BenedictusPPXVI” was among the other choices but the Vatican finally chose a name related to the office of the papacy.
We won’t exactly expect the Pope to tweet from a fancy smartphone or even from a tablet but all the tweets posted under his holiness’ account will contain only his words. The Pope won’t tweet very often and he will not tweet about how he is feeling or about who he thinks will win a soccer game.
All papal tweets will be very spiritual according to senior media advisor to the Vatican Greg Burke. What makes things even more interesting is the fact that the Pope will answer questions that have the Twitter hash tag #askpontifex. That’s a Twitter tag worth saving!
