A British woman was rescued after ten hours from the Adriatic Sea

The 46-year-old, named Kay, fell from the Norwegian Star cruise ship about 60 miles (97km) off Croatia’s coast shortly before midnight on Saturday as the vessel was making its way to Venice. The coastguard was notified. The Croatian Coast Guard patrol ship “Cavtat” and a PC-9 search plane were scrambled to save the woman. The rescue ship found the woman on Sunday morning swimming not far from where she was believed to have fallen into the water. At that moment the woman was exhausted. She has said she feels lucky to be alive. The woman was taken to a hospital on Sunday in the town of Pula, Croatia, and is believed to be out of danger.

The Norwegian Star Cruise Ship

„We are pleased to advise that the guest was found alive, is currently in stable condition, and has been taken ashore in Croatia for further treatment,” a spokeswoman for Norwegian Star said. The British Embassy in Croatia was notified. The circumstances of the incident are being investigated. The Norwegian Star was “recently refurbished” and features “15 delicious dining options, 10 bars and lounges, a sprawling spa” and an “always exciting casino”. The ship was delayed on  return to Venice due to this unexpected incident.
