More than 258,000 roadside breath tests were found faked by Victoria police officers

A scandal is linked to the Australian Victoria  police after an audit of five years' worth of data uncovered that more than 258,000 roadside breath tests had been faked.

It was discovered that that officers were duping the tests by placing a finger over the straw entry hole or blowing into the straw themselves.  "Let me be clear, this is not isolated occurrences, this is widespread behaviour," the Professional Standards Command Assistant Commissioner Russell Barrett told to media. "We'll be going out to every workplace and speaking to every member and explaining to them why this practice is wrong, what their roles are and why we need the trust and support of the community. We're going to ask why this has occurred so that we can learn from that and prevent repetitions of it," he added.

He promised that practice will not be more tolerated. Bareett believes there was no evidence to suggest officers had committed fraud, or any criminality has occurred. They probably did this „to highlight productivity.” The practice was not found to have occurred at supervised drug and alcohol bus test sites. no individuals have yet been spoken to or identified as being involved in the practice, he said that if specific officers are named the behaviour could be considered as misconduct and may be referred to the Independent Broad-based Anti-Corruption Commission.
