Attempted $32 million robbery at the Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport in Chile

On Wednesday, a group of armed men attempted to seize a large shipment of cash at the Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport in the capital of Chile. Between 10 and 12 robbers attacked as airport workers were moving $32.5m in cash off of a Latam Airlines plane.The robbers tied up a security guard and entered the airport in three vehicles. Security officials entered into a shootout with the robbers. One of the assailants and an airport security official were killed. The armed men fled, setting two of their vehicles on fire on a nearby highway. After incident, at La Moneda presidential palace in Santiago, Manuel Monsalve, the deputy interior minister, declared it was „a highly organized, highly armed and probably very well-planned robbery.”

A Delta Air Lines plane was riddled with bullets during the shooting at the airport in Chile. The authorities are currently searching for multiple individuals.The airport has been previously targeted. In 2017, an armed group stole about $18m, and three years later a similar heist took $15m from an armoured truck.
