Several people injured after a nightclub dance floor collapsed in Tenerife

People in the Playa de las Americas area plunged 10ft into the basement of the popular gay bar Butterfly Disco Pub when the dance floor collapsed. Eight ambulances were sent to the scene. Two people were seriously injured, with six described as ‘moderate’ and the remaining 14 as minor. The injured include several foreigners whose all nationalities have not yet been revealed but it is known that some British, Bulgarians and Romanians are among those who have been hurt.

A spokesman for the club said he was still waiting for information on the nationalities of those caught up in the incident.  All of the victims, who are aged between 20 and 60, were taken to hospital with a combination of fractures, traumas and other injuries. The club is located in a shopping centre on the main strip, Avenida Rafael Puig Lluvina in the municipality of Adeje. The Butterfly Disco Club, which is very popular, opens from 11pm to 6am. “This club is great especially on a Friday and Saturday night,” a British visitor said.  Police had closed off the street leading to the nightclub after incident.
