A gunman opened fire at a bus near Jerusalem’s Old City

A gunman has opened fire at a bus stop in Jerusalem’s Old City near the Western Wall, which is considered the holiest site where Jews can pray, early on Sunday. Three people were killed and seven were wounded. The bus was full of passengers. All victims were taken to nearby hospitals. Two victims, including a 35-year-old pregnant woman with abdominal injuries, are in a serious condition. The shooting occurred when passengers were boarding. After, the attacker fled on foot. Police were conducting a widespread manhunt throughout the city. Israeli forces have been raiding houses in the area and carrying out arrests.

They pushed into the nearby Palestinian neighbourhood of Silwan. The attack came a week after violence flared between Israel and militants in Gaza. Last weekend, Israeli aircraft carried out an offensive in the Gaza Strip targeting the militant group Islamic Jihad. At the time, forty-nine Palestinians, including 17 children and 14 militants, were killed and several hundred injured in the fighting. Islamic Jihad responded by firing hundreds of rockets at Israel. A day after the cease-fire halted the worst round of Gaza fighting in more than a year, Israeli troops killed three Palestinian militants and wounded dozens in a shootout in the West Bank city of Nablus.
