Airbnb banned parties worldwide in its listed properties

Airbnb banned parties in its listings worldwide due to coronavirus. “This party ban applies to all future bookings on Airbnb and it will remain in effect indefinitely until further notice,” Airbnb said in its announcement. Previously, hosts were allowed to authorize smaller parties such as birthday parties and baby showers. The new policy also includes an occupancy cap of 16 guests. Guests are required to follow all local Covid-19 health mandates.

Bans from the Airbnb community and possible legal action could result for hosts or guests who break the new rules. Strictly prohibited is „to take bar and club behavior to homes, sometimes rented through our platform.” Airbnb began cracking down last year as rowdy parties were causing problems with neighbors in some communities. Airbnb recently said it had seen bookings begin to “bounce back” and unveiled an initiative to promote short-range travel amid a broad slowdown in tourism. In July, it announced a U.S.-specific initiative restricting some renters under the age of 25 from booking entire home listings locally in an effort to reduce unauthorized parties. Last week, for the first time, the company initiated legal proceedings against a guest for violating its ban on party houses.
