In New York Jones worked with a group of her fellow high school graduates to start a scholarship fund for young African-American women to go to college.She  became Guinness World Records’ official oldest person when 117-year-old Misao Okawa died in Tokyo last year. Now, the unofficial world’s oldest person is Emma Morano, of Verbania, Italy, 116-year-old, who is also the second oldest person from Europe ever. She had a long-lived family: her mother, an aunt and some of her siblings turned 90 and her sister, Angela Morano (1908–2011) died at age 102. In 2011 she was part of a worldwide study conducted by George Church for Harvard Medical School of Boston, to study the secret of her longevity.
