Celebration of the World Press Freedom Day


The 2016 World Press Freedom Day is hold in Helsinki, Finland and the theme is “Access to Information and Fundamental Freedoms – This Is Your Right !” with focus on freedom of information as a fundamental freedom and as a human right, protecting press freedom from censorship and surveillance overreach and ensuring safety for journalism online and offline. The annual UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize’s winner is Khadija Ismayilova, an investigative journalist from Azerbaijan. Even celebrated worldwide, The World Press Freedom Day is marked by an injustice in Thailand, where the military government banned the veteran reporter Pravit Rojanaphruk from leaving Thailand to attend the May 3 event.
