The landing was pretty smooth despite the circumstances. As the plane was landing, the boarded passengers got to see the fire engines emergency vehicles on the runway. Many described to have lived a dramatic and stressful episode. Over the fear of tilting the plane over, passengers were asked to sit down while they were towed off the runway which had been previously closed. After an hour of waiting on a stationary plane, rescue forces carefully got everybody out.
Nine hours after the original departure time a new aircraft left to Chicago at 9pm. Some of the passengers decided against boarding the new airplane as they were too distressed. According to BA officials only a pregnant woman and two other passengers did not board the second flight.
