He discovered a passion for running in the 3 ½ years he has spent at the center but after years of being drug addict was described as “certainly a fragile, vulnerable and very emotional person” by Matteo Diotalevi, a spokesman for the San Patrignano drug rehabilitation center. Marengo, who was last seen at the finish line in Central Park at around 3pm on Sunday was found starving and dehydrated in Lower Manhattanon a downtown No. 2 train rumbling out of Penn Station by a 18-year NYPD veteran who informed about him reading a Daily News article on his phone. Marengo only speaks Italian. He was still wearing his running clothes when he was found. He was missing for two days. He had a GPS tracker to help with official timing during the marathon, but this only works on the course.
